Fundraising

Friends of Mbwa wa Africa undertake events 12 months of the year and as we live here in Scotland, we endeavour to do indoor events during the winter months from October to March and outdoor fundraising events in the spring and summer from April to September.

Raising money for any charity can often be difficult with lots of competition from other great, worthwhile charities. Unfortunately charitable trusts in the UK rarely give money to animal rescues, especially those out with the UK. This means that we need to raise money the hard way by getting out there and promoting the charity and getting people to buy into our vision.

It’s not to say that it’s all hard work, we always enjoy ourselves and stay motivated. To date we have carried out a large number of diverse activities – it’s important to always find something new and we like to think we have done this well.

Stalls

We attend lots of phyllis stall 1diverse events from dog charitable days to the Glasgow Vet School Annual Rodeo via the Scottish Air Show. It’s amazing how many people are receptive to what we say and give generously. We always have a good tombola which proves popular and in 2015 started to sell helium filled inflatable animal balloons. Additionally, we are lucky to have many fine bakers and cooks who have helped us hold bake sales. We were lucky to be allowed to hold bake sales in local banks and often Phyllis would relieve people of their money for cakes before they even got to bank it!

Race Nights

Traditional race nights involve betting on old horse racesrace night group facingscreened on a projector. We went a step further and had original pull along wooden horses with all of our jockeys wearing their wonderful outfits made by one of our great volunteers.

Bucket collections

We have even braved the cold, wet streets of Glasgow in December, dressed as dogs along with one of our volunteers’ Liz and her lovely dog Kim needless to say Kim raised the most money.

Bag packing

We are often lucky to get opportubagpackingnities from local supermarkets to pack their customers bags when they are checking out. We are always overwhelmed by people’s generosity and it gives us the ability to network and get the word out there at the same time.
